Canada to require officials to be vaccinated against COVID-19

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Canada will require all federal employees or officials (civil servant) to get vaccinated covid-19. The policy was issued amid an increase in cases of the Delta variant.

“We know that a vaccine is the best way to end this pandemic,” said Dominic LeBlanc, a government minister responsible for Canada’s federal bureaucracy. AFP, Friday (13/8).

He hopes that all officials will comply with these requirements. The vaccination deadline for around 300,000 officials will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The vaccine aims to help Canada achieve the minimum level of coverage necessary to completely reopen the economy, keep it open and protect thousands of workers,” said LeBlanc.

As of Friday (13/8), 71% of Canada’s 38 million people had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Almost 62 percent of Canadians are fully immunized.

The announcement comes less than a month before Canada’s borders reopen to vaccinated foreign travelers. The plan is for Canada to complete the easing on September 7, 2021, a year and a half since Canada closed its borders due to the pandemic.
