Team Canada won its only mixed curling match at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Gangneung, South Korea, on Monday. The Canadian team, consisting of skip Nathan Gray of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, third Chloe Fediuk of Edmonton, Alberta, second Owain Fisher of North River, Nova Scotia and lead Allie Iskiw of Edmonton, Alberta, defeated Switzerland 6-5. This was the second day in a row that Canada beat Switzerland by one point in curling in a notable event. On Sunday, Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario, defeated Silvana Tirinzoni 5-4 in nine ends in the final of the 2024 Canadian Open in Red Deer, Alberta. The Canadian Open is a Grand Slam event in the Grand Slam of Curling.
In Canada’s victory over Switzerland at the Winter Youth Olympic Games, the score was tied until matchday eight, when Team Gray won a single point.
It was a slow start for the Canadians as they were beaten 8-3 by Italy in their opening game. Then on Sunday, Canada defeated Brazil 14-0 before losing 6-3 to Great Britain. Canada currently has two wins and two losses and is tied for fourth place in Group B with Switzerland. Great Britain, Denmark and Italy are tied for first place with three wins and one loss.
