Olympic Games silver medalist Ilya Averbukh appreciated coach Alexander Zhulin’s offer to give figure skaters extra points for age, reports RT.
“I think Sasha was joking, there is nothing more to say about it,” Averbukh said.
Zhulin made such a proposal after Elizaveta Tuktamysheva’s performance at the Canadian Grand Prix.
24-year-old Tuktamysheva seriously claims to win one of three tickets to the Beijing Olympics – 2022 and leaves behind one of Eteri Tutberidze’s students. At the moment, Elizaveta gets higher marks than Alexandra Trusova, Anna Shcherbakova, Maya Khromykh and Daria Usacheva.
Former USSR figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova reacted on the proposal of Alexander Zhulin to put additional points for skaters of their age.
“I fully support Alexander Zhulin, who suggested adding Tuktamysheva points for age. Interesting offer. Such a system will motivate older athletes to continue their careers, ”said Tarasova.
