ATP Cup – Medvedev leads Russia to 1-1 draw with Canada in semi-final

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Daniil Medvedev became the savior of the Russian squad by scoring a victory to equal Canada’s lead in the 2022 ATP Cup semi-final in Sydney on Saturday.

The world number two defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-0 and forced the decider into the men’s doubles match.

“It was very difficult for me to start the game. I had to think of a way to break his serve. He has good serve and good technique,” Medvedev said after the game, according to the ATP report.

Before finally dominating the game, Medvedev only tried to defend against Felix’s brave attack. It only took a small mistake to transform the pressure into a dominant advantage.

Felix enters the pitch full of confidence after beating two-time ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev on Thursday.

But Medvedev managed to frustrate the Canadian with great mobility on the pitch and scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute.

Medvedev won 88% of his first serve points and finished the game without facing a breaking point. With the win, Medvedev led the ATP meeting record 3-0 over Felix. The latter two met in the semi-finals of the 2021 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York.
