Jakarta (ANTARA) – US tennis player Tommy Paul described Andy Murray as a “legend” after beating former world number one in the quarterfinals at ATP Stockholm on Thursday local time or WIB on Friday.
Paul, ranked 52nd, defeated three-time Grand Slam champion Murray 6-2 3-6 6-3, and will face compatriot Frances Tiafoe for a place in the final.
“He’s a legend but I also played my best tennis today,” said Paul, 24.
“That was the game plan for him to keep chasing after his long game (against seed Jannik Sinner) yesterday.”
Tiafoe qualified for the final four beating England’s Dan Evans 1-6 6-1 6-1.
Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the semi-finals with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands to register his 100th career ATP victory.
The 21-year-old then faced his childhood friend and fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
Third seed Shapovalov, who won the Stockholm tournament in its last edition in 2019, beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 4-6 6-3 7-5.
