Akshay Kumar, the popular Bollywood star has often been criticized for his Canadian citizenship. The action star has come under fire from netizens for holding a Canadian passport while promoting patriotism and speaking out about national issues through his films. In several of his interviews, Akshay Kumar had spoken about his citizenship and revealed that he pays his taxes in India. During a recent event. the Ram Setu the actor opened up about the same again and made some interesting revelations.
Akshay Kumar says he is very Indian
During the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS) 2022 held in New Delhi, Akshay Kumar spoke again about his Canadian citizenship and the criticism he faced about it. “Having a Canadian passport doesn’t mean I’m less of an Indian. I’m very Indian. I’ve been here for nine years since I got my passport. And I don’t want to get into the why, what happened, my movies weren’t working, blah blah blah,” the Ram Setu actor said while interacting with the media at the event.
When Akshay Kumar talked about getting Canadian citizenship
Earlier, Akshay Kumar had spoken about obtaining Canadian citizenship, on his official Twitter account. According to the actor, he was planning to move to Canada to start a new career, after facing about 14 to 15 consecutive box office failures. “I really do not understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also true that I have not visited Canada in the past last seven years. I work in India. and pay all my taxes here,” the actor wrote in his post on Twitter.
Akshay Kumar’s work front
The actor is currently going through a low phase in his career with consecutive average releases. His latest release Ram Setu received mixed reviews from audiences and emerged as a box office failure. However, Akshay Kumar has a very exciting range of projects including official remakes of the acclaimed Tamil film Soorarai Pottruand the blockbuster Malayalam Driving License, titled selfie. He also makes a special appearance in Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming action thriller, An action hero.
