TASS, April 28. The Turkish Grand Prix will replace the Canadian stage in the Formula 1 World Championship season calendar. This was reported by the Formula 1 press service.
A stop in Canada has been canceled due to the coronavirus for the second year in a row. It was to take place from June 11 to 13.
“Although we are disappointed that we cannot come to Canada this season, we are happy to confirm that Turkey will host the Grand Prix in 2021 after an incredible race last season,” said Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1. I know everything. our fans are excited about the spectacular start to the season and Turkey have a great track which offers uncompromising battles. “
“I would like to thank the promoter and the Canadian authorities for all their efforts over the past few weeks, but the travel situation made our plans impossible,” Domenicali continued. “I would also like to thank the promoter and the Turkish authorities for their continued willingness to host the Formula 1 race.
The Turkish Grand Prix was held continuously from 2005 to 2011, but was subsequently withdrawn from the calendar. Last year, the stage in Turkey was put on the calendar after a number of countries refused to hold races amid the coronavirus. The winner of the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix was Briton Lewis Hamilton, who won his seventh league title.
This season’s calendar includes 23 races. The next step will take place from April 30 to May 2 in Portugal.
