American director Peter Jackson has become a billionaire. Write about it Forbes.

This status was brought to him by the sale of the assets of the New Zealand studio Weta Digital, which developed special effects for the world famous film trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

Jackson sold the studio to video game developer Unity Software. The transaction is for $1.6 billion and Jackson will receive approximately $600 million in cash and $375 million in Unity Software stock.

The publication clarified that New Zealand does not generally charge capital gains tax, so Jackson “received a big advantage.”

Forbes recalled that Jackson had a solid fortune before – for each Lord of the Rings film, the director received 10 million dollars in advance and at least 10% of the box office. Film revenues worldwide amounted to approximately $3 billion.

On October 31, Peter Jackson celebrated his birthday. His major directing and producing works are in the photo gallery “Newspapers.Ru”.
