Wayne Simmonds announces his retirement at the age of 35

National Hockey League right winger Wayne Simmonds of Scarborough, Ont., has retired from the National Hockey League at the age of 35, according to Hunter Crowther Daily Faceoff On Monday. He played 15 seasons in the NHL from 2008 to 2023. Simmonds was with the Los Angeles Kings from 2008 to 2011, the Philadelphia Flyers from 2011 to 2019, the Nashville Predators in 2019, the New Jersey Devils from 2019 to 2020, the Buffalo Sabers from 2019 to 2020 and the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2020 to 2023.

Last season, Simmonds had two assists in 18 games for the Maple Leafs. He was a +1 with 49 penalty minutes, nine shots on goal, four faceoff wins, seven blocked shots, 44 hits and three takeaways.

In 1,037 NHL games, Simmonds scored 263 goals and 263 assists for 526 points in 1,037 games. He was a -92 with 1,313 penalty minutes, 170 power play points, four shorthanded points, 44 game-winning goals, 2,130 shots on goal, 104 face-off wins, 466 blocked shots, 1,913 hits, 397 takeaways and 401 giveaways.

Simmomds won the 2018-19 Messier Award for leadership. This year he split his time between the Flyers and the Predators.

Twice in his career, Simmonds scored 60 points in a season, a career high. He scored 29 goals and 31 assists in the 2013-14 season and 32 goals and 28 assists for 60 points in the 2015-16 season. At the international level, Simmonds won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2008 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Pardubice, Czech Republic.
