Toronto defeats Montreal 3-0 in a remarkable PWHL game

Toronto defeated Montreal 3-0 in a very important Professional Women’s Hockey League game on Friday at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario. Not only did Canadian Olympic champion Kristen Campbell of Brandon, Manitoba pitch a shutout, she also did so in front of a PWHL record crowd of 19,285 spectators.

Campbell made 30 saves in the game for the shutout. It was their second shutout of the PWHL season. They also defeated New York 2-0 on January 26th.

In Toronto’s win over Montreal, Toronto scored all three goals in the third period. Toronto’s scorers were Hannah Miller of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Victoria Bach of Milton, Ontario, and Jesse Compher. Miller had a multi-point game for Toronto as she recorded a goal and an assist for two points.

So far in the 2024 PWHL season, Campbell has a record of six wins and four losses with a goals-against average of 2.35 and a save percentage of .913. From an offensive perspective, Campbell also received an assist. The assist came on February 14th in Toronto’s 5-3 win over Boston. Campbell set up Canadian Olympic champion Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ont., giving Toronto a 2-0 lead at the time. Spooner won a gold medal for Canada 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and that 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Campbell and Bach also won a gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Toronto is in third place in the PWHL Division with 17 points.
