OTTAWA, KOMPAS.com – The daughter of Huawei founder Meng Wanzhou says she is relieved after being released from house arrest in Canada.

He thanked his supporters after a deal with prosecutors saw the United States drop a fraud charge.

Meng Wanzhou, who was Huawei’s chief financial officer, was arrested in Canada on December 1, 2018 at the request of the United States.

Then, on Friday (9/24/2021), the US Department of Justice canceled his extradition request.

“I will never forget all the good wishes I received from everyone in the world,” Meng Wanzhou said BBC.

The United States suspects Meng Wanzhou of abusing HSBC bank regarding the true nature of Huawei’s relationship with a company called Skycom.

As a result, HSBC has the potential to violate the sanctions rules imposed by the United States on Iran.

According to a source close to Meng, the mother of four will be able to return to China on Saturday (9/25/2021).

As part of the deal, Meng Wanzhou also agreed to provide facts containing a confession that she had falsely informed HSBC.

The US Department of Justice said Meng Wanzhou admitted he was responsible for implementing schemes that have harmed global financial institutions.

The case of Meng Wanzhou, daughter of the founder of Huawei, had angered China and strained relations with the United States and Canada.

After Meng Wanzhou’s release, China went on to release the two Canadians they held captive.
