The Royal British Mint has decided to mine components of non-functioning cellphones, televisions and laptops in gold as part of its environmental policy. It is reported by Reuters.
It should be noted that a factory in Wales will be built for the relevant purpose. The UK will use technology from Canadian startup Excir, which has been able to extract high purity precious metals from electronic devices.
According to data from KMD, the improvement of this process will allow the recovery of other metals, including palladium, silver and copper.
As reported in the publication Telegraph Mint Executive Director Anne Jessop, the use of such technologies marks a new milestone in the history of the Mint and can help solve one of the world’s greatest environmental problems.
Previously reportedthat the British Mint issued a collector coin in honor of 007.
