Edmonton Oilers center Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, scored his fourth career National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. He achieved this with a 3-1 win for the Oilers over the Ottawa Senators at Rogers Place.
Hyman scored the first goal at 18:08 of the second period through Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia on the power play. Hyman then scored the game-winning goal on a trickler from Bouchard at 2:46 of the third period to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. Then, with two minutes and 50 seconds left, Hyman tied the score with a power-play goal from Richmond Hill, Ont.’s Connor McDavid and Bouchard.
Hyman’s first career NHL hat trick came on December 13, 2022 in the Oilers’ 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators. He then scored three goals in the Oilers’ 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on November 11, 2023 and three more goals in the Oilers’ 6-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on December 6, 2023.
In the 2023/24 season, Hyman scored 25 goals and 15 assists for 40 points in 35 games. He was a +13 with 32 penalty minutes, 11 power play points, four game-winning goals, 135 shots on goal, three faceoff wins, 20 blocked shots, 28 hits, 13 takeaways and nine giveaways.
With the win, the Oilers are in a playoff spot for the first time this season. They have a record of 20 wins, 15 regulation losses and one overtime loss, which is 41 points.
