The world’s sixth-ranked golfer was in town as part of her Brooke Brigade tour

Children and families lined up in Richmond’s Golf Town on Monday afternoon to meet and greet professional Canadian golfer Brooke Henderson.

Henderson, currently the sixth-ranked professional player in the world, was in town for the Brooke Brigade event just a day after she finished a solid 12th at the US Open in Pebble Beach.

“Whether I’m on or off the court, it means a lot to me to have their support and I hope to inspire them the way they inspire me,” Henderson said, adding she’s dedicated to young girls, boys and Families in Bridgeport’s Golf Town grateful.

Twelve-year-old Ella was first in line with her family at the Richmond event to meet Henderson.

Ella, a young golfer, said she couldn’t be more excited to meet the pro golfer and offer her words of encouragement.

“I hope to tell her that she did well in her tournament yesterday (Sunday),” said Ella.

The sport has its limitations, but according to Henderson, women “have pushed boundaries” in life and on the track.

“We’re trying to take the game to the next level, get closer to the men’s pay and play the better courses that the men can play,” she said.

“It’s always a struggle but I feel like we’re winning right now and we just have to keep going.”

Henderson reminds young aspiring female golfers to have fun on the golf course.

“It’s a cliche, but it’s really just about having fun. Find a group of people you enjoy spending time with and take the class together.”
