Wilm wins bronze in the women’s 100m backstroke at the World Championships

Ingrid Wilm of Calgary, Alberta, won the bronze medal in the women’s 100-meter backstroke at the 2024 World Swimming Championships in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. This was Wilm’s third long distance medal in his career at the World Swimming Championships. Previously, she won the bronze medal in the women’s 4×100 medley relay at the 2022 World Swimming Championships in Budapest and the 2023 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka.

Wilm had a time of 59.18 seconds. Claire Cuzan of the USA won the gold medal with a time of 58.29 seconds. Iona Anderson of Australia won the silver medal with a time of 59.12 seconds. Wilm reached the podium with a tenth of a second lead. Jaclyn Barkley of Australia took fourth place with a time of 59.28 seconds.

Wilm’s personal best in the women’s 100-meter backstroke occurred on March 28, 2023 at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Ontario with a time of 58.8 seconds. Canadian Olympic silver medalist Kylie Masse of Windsor, Ontario holds the Canadian record when she achieved a time of 57.7 seconds at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto on June 19, 2021. Winning a bronze medal for Wilm at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar will give Wilm confidence as she prepares for it 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
