Mental Health Week takes place May 6-12
Every now and then there is a word in the news that needs further explanation. CBC Kids News contributor Sabrina Erin uses her drawings to break it down for you.
When was the last time you checked in on your own mental health?
It’s a good idea to stop by any time, but this week happens to be Mental Health Week.
From May 6-12, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is encouraging adults and children to have conversations about mental health issues.
This year’s theme is “Healing Through Compassion.”
“That’s because compassion is needed now more than ever,” CMHA communications manager Emma Higgins said in an email.
Sometimes children feel stressed about exams or homework.
In other cases, children may have concerns about their family or social life.
Also, there is a lot of scary or sad news in the world.
The CMHA says that suffering is unavoidable, but compassion can help make a positive difference in people’s lives.
Okay, but what does compassion actually mean? And how can it make a difference?
Kids News contributor Sabrina Erin interviewed Dr. Bassam Khoury, a clinical psychologist, to find out more.
