Kolby Wanchuk of Sherwood Park, Alberta, leads the Group B saddle bronc standings at the 2024 Calgary Stampede. Riding the bronc Alberta Moon, Wanchuk earned a score of 87.5 on Monday.
Wanchuk actually ranks first in the overall Group B saddle bronco standings. The other cowboy to score 87.5 points was Chase Brooks of Deer Lodge, who accomplished the feat on Falkland Playboy. Wanchuk and Brooks both won $6,250. Third place went to Trenton Burd of Madison, Kansas, who scored 85 points on a bronco horse named Big Surprise.
Interestingly, Wanchuk comes from a rodeo family. His father Ricky was a professional rodeo clown, his mother Joan was a barrel racer, and his brother Kyle was involved in tie-down roping. So far, Wanchuk has won the 2024 Parado Del Sol in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Meanwhile, the fourth day of the Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon Racing event took place on Monday. Troy Dorchester of Westerose, Alberta, posted the fastest time of 1:10.93. Obrey Motowylo of Hoadley, Alberta, posted the second fastest time of 1:11.26. Ross Knight of St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, posted the third fastest time of 1:11.37.
The overall leader is Chad Fike of Cremona, Alberta. Fike has a four-day time of 4:47.65. He has a 1.63-second lead over Jamie Laboucane of St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, who has a time of 4:49.28. Chanse Vigen of Calgary, Alberta, is in third place with a time of 4:49.30. The third-day leader was Jason Glass of High River, Alberta. However, he knocked over a barrel on Monday and dropped to sixth place overall.
