Katie Vincent from Mississauga, Ontario and Sloan MacKenzie from Halifax, Nova Scotia won the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Third place was achieved in the women’s 500-meter canoe pair (also known simply as C2).

Vincent and MacKenzie finished in third place with a time of 1:54.36. China’s Mengya Sun and Shixiao Xu won the gold medal with a time of 1:52.81. Ukraine’s Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Rybachok won the silver medal with a time of 1:54.30. Vincent and MacKenzie finished on the podium with a lead of 0.54 seconds. Agnes Anns Kiss and Bianka Nagy of Hungary finished in fourth place with a time of 1:54.90.

Although China dominated the race, the result for second place, or more precisely for the silver medal, was very close. A photo finish by the tournament organizers was required to determine the second place. It was determined that Ukraine beat Canada by six hundredths of a second in the battle for silver.

This is only the second time the C2 500 metres has been included in the Olympics, and on both occasions Canada has won a medal. 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021Vincent won Olympic bronze alongside Laurence Vincent-Lapointe of Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

Vincent has had a remarkable canoeing career. In addition to her two Olympic medals, she has won 12 medals at the Canoe World Championships.
