Here’s a spooky fact just in time for Halloween: A new report has ranked Vancouver — and four other communities in British Columbia — among the top ten “seediest” cities in the country.
According to pest control company Orkin, Vancouver ranks second on the Canadian list, just behind Toronto, which ranks first overall.
Burnaby follows in third place, while Kelowna comes in fourth. Mississauga, Ontario rounds out the top five.
Richmond and Victoria are sixth and seventh on the list respectively, followed by Ottawa, Scarborough and Moncton.
Orkin said the cities on the list are ordered by the number of rodent treatments the company conducted between August 1, 2021 and July 31, 2022.
Looking specifically at B.C., Surrey, Vernon, Delta, Abbotsford, Coquitlam and Langley were named the “seediest” cities.
As temperatures drop across Canada, the company is recommending people “take precautions” to keep mice and rats out of their homes.
This includes trimming back brush from your home’s exterior walls, eliminating “any sources of moisture” such as clogged gutters and garbage buildup, looking around your property to see if there are droppings or other signs of rodents, and sealing these entry points, to keep the animals outside.
Orkin also recommends keeping your home clean inside and out to avoid attracting rodents.
