Washington (ANTARA) – The US State Department has lowered its COVID-19 travel advisory for Canada to “level 2: high risk alert,” according to a statement released Tuesday (10/8).
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also lowered Canada’s travel recommendation score to Level 2.
Despite the changes, the U.S. government shows no signs of easing restrictions on Canadian tourists, who are prohibited from entering the U.S. land border.
On Monday (9/8), Canada opened its doors for the first time in 16 months to fully vaccinated American tourists.
Canada banned all vacation travel from the United States in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But on August 9, fully vaccinated Americans were able to enter the country.

U.S. travel restrictions for non-essential travelers at the Canadian and Mexican land borders will expire on August 21, but are expected to be renewed again.
The State Department also said the advisories for several countries, including Vietnam, Austria and Kenya, had been upgraded to “Level 3: Reconsider Travel.”
The CDC warned U.S. citizens on Monday against travel to Israel, France, Thailand, Iceland and several other countries due to the growing number of infections in those countries.
The State Department also released its parallel “Level 4: Do not travel” advisory for Iceland and France on Monday and confirmed on Tuesday that it had added Israel to the list. In July, Israel was rated “level 1” by US government agencies before being raised two notches.
