Ukraine, Canada begin construction of cosmodrome – Goskosmos – news from Ukraine, Politics

Canada and Ukraine begin construction of a commercial space launch pad in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. This was announced on Facebook by the head of the State Space Agency Vladimir Taftai.

The project provides for the creation on the Atlantic coast of the province of a commercial cosmodrome for the Cyclone-4M launcher designed and manufactured by the Ukrainian design offices Yuzhnoye and Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant. It will be implemented by the Canadian company Maritime Launch Services Ltd (MLS).

The command center of the future cosmodrome will be named after the former head of the Yuzhnoye design office, Alexander Degtyarev.

  • On November 16, a Ukrainian-powered rocket launched three French reconnaissance satellites into orbit.
  • This was the third Vega rocket launch this year. In total, since 2012, Vega has been launched 20 times. During this time, 111 spacecraft were launched into orbit. Vega refused twice: the first time on July 11, 2019 due to a fault in the thermal protection of the 2nd floor, and the second on November 17, 2020 due to a faulty assembly of the floor.
