TORONTO (May 16, 2024) – Following the death of the popular Canadian radio host and long-time host of TSN’s SPORTSCENTRE Darren DutchyshTSN released the following statement: “Darren Dutchyshen was a legend of Canadian sports reporting, a great teammate and an integral part of TSN for the past three decades,” said Stewart Johnston, Senior Vice President, Sales & Sports, Bell Media. “Darren had a larger than life personality, his incredible sense of humor and magnetic energy made him a natural broadcaster who easily connected with viewers. His enthusiasm reminded us every day why we love sports. Most of all, Darren was a friend to all of us at TSN and we will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his loved ones.” “He died surrounded by his closest family,” the Dutchyshen family said. “His sharp wit remained with him until his final moments, and he delivered plenty of jokes, as always – most of them pretty good and all of them inappropriate.” One of Canada’s most popular and likable sports personalities, Dutchyshen began his career at TSN in 1995 as anchor of the weekend editions of SportsDesk and CFL Live. Dutchyshen became a popular regular on TSN’s flagship news program over the next three decades, often hosting late-night editions of SPORTSCENTRE with co-host Rod Smith and later with Jennifer Hedger. Dutchyshen played a key role in the Kraft Celebration Tour, which saw SPORTSCENTRE tour the country for several summers in a row, and co-hosted the boxing show In This Corner with Canadian trainer and cut-man Russ Anber. He also hosted Olympic Prime Time on TSN during the 2012 London Olympics and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Dutchyshen was born in Regina and grew up in Porcupine Plain, Sask. His first job as a sports reporter was with STV in Saskatoon, followed by a stint at IMTV in Dauphin, Man. He also hosted ITV’s Sports Night in Edmonton for seven years.
