Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Prime Minister of Canada Justin trudeau presented the composition of his new ministerial cabinet in Ottawa on Tuesday (10/26).

The ranks of ministers are filled with old names, but a number of new names are of some concern, including the post of Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Trudeau has appointed Steven Guilbeault, a high-level environmental activist, as Minister of the Environment and Climate Change.

Meanwhile, Anita Anand has been appointed Minister of Defense to replace Hajrit Sajjan who has been caught up in a sexual harassment case. Anita Anand is a key figure in the vaccination efforts in Canada.

Later, Melanie Joly was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Chrystia Freeland, retained her dual role of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

Justin Trudeau’s new cabinet has an equal number of men and women. Not only that, Trudeau also added two new ministerial positions, namely the Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, and the Minister of Housing.

Trudeau chose Carolyn Bennet as Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, a family psychologist who was previously Minister of Public Health.

Trudeau was re-elected Prime Minister of Canada last September. In a speech, during this period Trudeau prioritized the management of Covid-19 and the fight against climate threats.

Trudeau is certain to regain control of the Canadian government after the Liberal Party he leads wins the most votes in the election.

According to government data, the Liberal Party won 156 of 338 ridings. The Liberals’ toughest rival, the Conservative Party, managed to win just 119 votes in the riding.

With the election results this time around, Trudeau’s party failed to secure a majority. Observers also believe Trudeau will find it increasingly difficult to pass various government programs.

Trudeau’s party actually won a parliamentary majority when it won the 2015 election. While there are still a number of issues, such as the inequality of business and the issue of embezzlement, popularity of Trudeau is still high.

However, the Liberal Party lost its majority when Trudeau ran into issues of racism in 2019. Since then, Trudeau’s popularity has steadily declined.
