There is a surprising frontrunner after day five of the 2024 Montana’s Brier in Regina, Saskatchewan. Trevor Bonot of Fort Frances, Ontario is at the top with a record of five wins and one loss.
In Tuesday’s game, Bonot, representing Northern Ontario for the first time, won both games. He first defeated Scott Howard of Ontario 10-6 and then Catlin Schneider of British Columbia 7-4. In Northern Ontario’s win over Ontario, Bonot scored three points with the hammer in the fifth and ninth periods. In Northern Ontario’s victory over British Columbia, Bonot then stole points in the fifth and tenth ends.
In Pool A, Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher and Manitoba’s Brad Jacobs each have four wins and one loss, while Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone has three wins and two losses. Jacobs’ only loss came in Northern Ontario with a score of 9-8. Alberta’s only loss came to Bonot by a score of 6-5. Jacobs’ only loss came against British Columbia by a score of 9-8.
In Pool B there is a three-way tie for first place. There you will find Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island. All three teams have five wins and one loss. Team Canada now has four wins and two defeats.
