Three small businesses received $10,000 grants in the town of South Bruce Peninsula.
My Main Street and the Town of South Bruce Peninsula have awarded the first round of funding to businesses in downtown Wiarton.
Symon Says and Your Local Meat Shoppe & More each received $10,000 to support their existing businesses and $10,000 was awarded to new venture Great Ape Empire.
Simon says is a downtown Wiarton gift shop featuring local and Canadian items including “Made in Canada” baby clothes, fun greeting cards, local crafts and art, maple syrup from Neyaashiinigmiing, pottery and more.
Your Local meat and more offers prepackaged lamb, goat, chicken, pork, fish and buffalo in Gray and Bruce County, including Halal. They also offer a selection of sheep and goat dairy products.
The Great Ape Empire is a new Canadian veteran-owned business that sells and rents hiking, camping, survival and adventure gear and clothing in downtown Wiarton.
The money comes from the My Main Street Local Business Accelerator program.
A City news release states, “Main streets play a vital role in growing Canada’s economy and supporting local communities.
There are up to five non-repayable contributions of $10,000 to support existing businesses and up to five non-repayable contributions of $10,000 to attract new businesses. The city says this is the first round of companies to be selected.

The Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) offers the My Main Street program component, Local Business Accelerator, which provides non-repayable contributions to more than 650 local businesses in southern Ontario.
