Three Canadian Davis Cup winning team members will play in the Calgary National Bank Challenger tournament

Vasek Pospisil is returning to the National Bank Challenger tournament in Calgary where he will be joined by several Davis Cup-winning Canadian teammates, the tournament director announced Tuesday.

Pospisil will join Montreal natives Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau at the Calgary tournament, which begins Nov. 5 at the East & Victor Tennis Center in southeast Calgary.

All three players were members of Canada’s Davis Cup team that became world champions in 2022.

Pospisil, returning to Calgary for the third consecutive year, is ranked No. 25 in the world and has earned victories over a number of top 20 players, including Danill Medvedev, Andy Murray, Milos Raonic, Grigor Dmitrov, Felix Auger-Alaissime and Richard Gasquet.

Diallo is on a roll, defeating former major winner Dominic Thiem, world No. 3, last week en route to his second ATP Challenger title at the Bratslav Challenger.

The 24-year-old Galarneau will be competing in his fourth consecutive National Bank Challenger tournament. Galarneau is 5-0 in the Davis Cup and has moved up the ATP rankings to No. 186 in the world. Galarneau reached the final of the Columbus Challenger and won the Granby Challenger in early 2023, his first Challenger title of his career.

The Canadians are joined by Sabine Lisicki of Germany, Urszula Radwanaska of Poland and Benoit Pare of France, who were announced earlier this month.

The full program will be announced on Monday at the Core Shopping Center.
