Health Canada has issued a recall notice for CUPKIN brand children’s double-walled stainless steel cups, warning of the presence of lead in these products.
According to the notice issued Monday, the cups could potentially contain high levels of lead near the bottom seal, posing a significant toxicity risk, particularly to children.
The health agency warns that exposure to lead can cause a number of serious health effects, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea and negative effects on the heart and immune system. In extreme cases there have been deaths.
The recall affects CUPKIN 8 oz (236.6 ml) and 12 oz (354.9 ml). Double-walled children’s cups made of stainless steel Sold in pairs in 12 different color combinations with a matching color straw.
The cups were made in China and sold in Canada from January 2018 to March 2023. Only a dozen were sold in the country and no incidents or injuries related to these products have been reported in the country, the release said.
The health authority is asking consumers to immediately stop using the cups and contact CUPKIN Company for a full refund.
