The Weeknd stumbled upon a song of alleged plagiarism

The accusations came from Suniel Fox and Henry Strange, who belonged to the Epikker group. They accused Call Out My Name of sounding like their song Vibeking.

They sued The Weeknd and the Universal Music Group label for alleged copyright infringement in federal court in California, United States.

Epikker’s own song, Vibeking, is no longer publicly available, although it was reportedly released in 2017.

In the account of the trial cited by Billboard On Wednesday (9/22), the two songs were deemed to have the same signature and the same tempo.

“This is heard when The Weeknd sings ‘So call my name’ and other lyrical variations of such a hook. The rhythm of that hook is also the same,” said the lawsuit, which was filed on September 17. .

The song Vibeking was reportedly premiered in 2015. While The Weeknd’s song Call Out My Name was released in 2018, and is included in the EP My Dear Melancholy.

Call Out My Name was produced by Frank Dukes, along with other songs from the EP My Dear Melancholy. The EP features songs like Try Me, Wasted Times, I Was Never There and others.

The Call Out My Name music video so far Wednesday (9/22) has been viewed over 700 million times.
