The United States House of Representatives voted Thursday in favor of the contempt of Steve Bannon, former Trump adviser, for refusing to appear before the lower house committee investigating the Jan.6 attack on the Capitol. The vote was 229 in favor and 202 against. Only nine Republican lawmakers joined Democrats in supporting the resolution recommending that the US Department of Justice initiate criminal proceedings against Bannon. These are the words of the House majority leader Steny Hoyer.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer: “Steve Bannon’s refusal to appear, even when he has been formally asked to do so, shows Bannon’s contempt not only for Congress but also for the Constitution and the law of the United States. It is an unacceptable attitude which hinders this process which is in progress to know all the details of the attack on the Capitol ”.
On January 5, the day before the violent insurgency, Steve Bannon predicted that January 6 would be a turning point in American politics. On his radio show, he told his listeners: “There is going to be a lot of turmoil. If convicted, Bannon could face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $ 100,000.
