The streets of downtown Toronto fill with revelers and rainbow flags for the city’s Pride parade

by Ainsley Ingram

The streets of downtown Toronto are teeming with rainbow regalia this afternoon as thousands take part in one of the largest Pride events in the country.

The Toronto Pride Parade marks the culmination of a month of events celebrating the city’s LGBTQ+ community.

The email you need for the most important news of the day from Canada and around the world.

Thousands of people streamed along the parade route through the city center, waving rainbow flags, pompoms and umbrellas with broad smiles.

According to Pride Toronto, the parade will begin at Bloor Street and Church Street, then wind down Yonge Street and end at Nathan Phillips Square.

The march is expected to include several LGBTQ+ newcomers to Canada who are celebrating their first Pride events in their new city.

Many say Pride is a symbol of hope and belonging for them after fleeing persecution elsewhere in the world.
