The Newfoundland and Labrador government is doubling down on dental grant programs

by Naomi Parham

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is expanding the Rural Dental Bursary Program and the Specialist Dental Bursary Program to recruit and retain dentists in the province.

The increase doubles each grant from $25,000 to $50,000 per grant to attract candidates to areas of need and improve dentist retention.

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in a dental education program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation Canada or the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. Students from other dental schools that are equivalent to Canadian schools are also eligible to participate.

Preference is given to candidates resident in Newfoundland and Labrador who are willing to practice in specific areas of need throughout the province. More information about the program can be found here.

The expansion of the dental grant program will attract more dentists to rural areas of the province and ensure Newfoundland and Labrador’s recruitment efforts remain competitive.
