The Manitoba rink is undefeated in the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. –

Kyle Kurz and his team from the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg are the only rink still undefeated after four days and 11 draws at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.

Kurz, representing Manitoba, defeated BC’s Cameron de Jong 7-3 in the 11th draw on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 6-0 in the competition.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kurz defeated Alberta’s Evan Van Amsterdam 5-2 in the 10th draw.

Kurz leads Pool B and the Championship Pool. Shaun Meachem of Saskatchewan, Scott McDonald of Ontario, Paul Flemming of Nova Scotia and Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories are all 5-1.

The Northwest Territories are in second place in Group B, followed by Alberta at 4-2.

New Brunswick’s Charles Sullivan is 3-3, BC is 2-4, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Keith Ryan is 1-5 and Nunavut’s Peter Van Strien is 0-6 to round out Pool B.

Meachem’s local Swift Current Curling Club rink sits atop Pool A, with Ontario second and Nova Scotia third.

Prince Edward Island’s Tyler Smith and Quebec’s Pierre-Luc Morissette are both 2-4, while Yukon’s Terry Miller and Northern Ontario’s Trevor Bonot are 1-5.

McDonald, of the St. Thomas, Ontario-based St. Thomas Curling Club, entered the day undefeated 4-0, but lost to Meachem 6-5 in the ninth draw on Wednesday morning before defeating Morissette 6-4 in the evening .

Draw 12 takes place Thursday morning when BC takes on Northern Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador takes on Yukon and Nunavut plays Quebec in the seeding pool.

The championship ends on Saturday.
