The 21-year-old Canadian scored 13 goals for Lille last season in his debut season in Ligue 1 after the transfer from Ghent, and the forward has no plans to do worse this season.
David scored his seventh Ligue 1 goal this season on Saturday night, which means he is now the top scorer in the French series along with Gaetan Laborde.
And the goal he scored on Saturday night was spectacular.

– Phenomenal
David was played in the back room by Jose Fonte and received the ball well with a pirouette, before deceiving two Brest players with a nice Cruijff turn, then he placed the ball safely in the corner with his left foot.

The scoring also sparked reactions on social networks.
– Jonathan David is phenomenal. CONCACAF’s best forward, writes football influencer Maximiliano Bretos on Twitter.
– Jonathan David with a bit of an end after being played by José Fonte and he gives Lille a 1-0 lead over Brest. A goal from a confident player, writes famous journalist Robin Bairner on Twitter.
– Hunted by the big clubs
David’s impressive performances for Lille over the past year should not have gone unnoticed at big European clubs. According to Spanish newspaper Fichajes, Real Madrid and Arsenal will have the Canadian on the radar.
The Liverpool Echo have also already signaled their interest in Liverpool’s David. The 21-year-old has a contract with Lille until the summer of 2025.
However, David’s goal wasn’t the only goal of the game.
After a little over half an hour of play, Brest got a free kick in good position. Then Romain Faivre got up and sent the free kick into the goal – in a bit of a special way.
The 23-year-old slipped, kicking the ball with his foot, but the ball changed direction in the wall, and so an outmatched Ivo Grbic in the Lille cage must have seen the ball go into goal.
There were no more goals, so it ended with a points split between Lille and Brest on Saturday night.
Last season, Lille shocked everyone and won the French series in front of the star gallery of PSG. This season, however, hasn’t gone well for the reigning league champions, who are now in 9th place in the standings.
