The tournament will feature six franchises and each team will consist of 16 sixteen players from full and associate nations, two top international players, three Canada national team players and three up-and-coming Canadian cricketers.

The first two editions of the Global T20 featured cricketers such as Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, David Warner, Steve Smith and Brendon McCullum. Wasim Akram, Brian Lara and Mahela Jayawardene were mentors.
“As Canada regains ODI status, Global T20 will act as a catalyst to kickstart our campaign to achieve our vision of being among the top partner nations,” said Rashpal Bajwa, President of Cricket Canada.

While the Indian Premier League (IPL) has enjoyed amazing success, various cricket associations have attempted to replicate the model with their own twenty-twenty (T20) format leagues, but have yet to develop a viable business model.
While there is no comparison to the IPL, Mint recently reported that attendance figures from all major leagues indicate that leagues such as the Big Bash League (Australia), the newly launched SA T20 (South Africa) or the Caribbean Premier League (West Indies) Don’t go anywhere near the local leagues, such as those featuring former Indian cricketers.
