There are four teams remaining in the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Markin MacPhail Center in Calgary, Alberta. Six teams started the day on Friday, but two teams have now been eliminated.
In Friday afternoon’s Page 1/2 qualifiers, Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones defeated Alberta’s Selena Sturmay 8-4 and Ontario’s Rachel Homan defeated Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson 8-4. In the knockout qualifiers on Page 3/4, Kate Cameron of Manitoba defeated Canada 9-4 and Sturmay defeated Kaitlyn Lawes of Manitoba 8-5.
Based on Friday’s results, we know that Homan will play in the 1-2 game against Jones on Saturday evening and Cameron will play in the 3-4 game against Sturmay on Saturday afternoon.
One reason for Alberta’s win over Manitoba is that they were able to put pressure on their opponent in the early stages of the game. Sturmay led Cameron 6-1 after five games.
“I think we did a really good job of capitalizing on mistakes and starting strong, which helped us get through the rest of the game,” said the 25-year-old Edmonton player. “I was really happy with how our team was able to bounce back (after a loss to Jones).”
Cameron’s victory was notable as Einarson had won four consecutive Scotties.
“Obviously they’re a great team,” Cameron said. “They had a wonderful season and the last four seasons have been wonderful. We knew we had to play them at some point this week. We were a bit nervous playing against them now. We came out strong in the second half (stolen six points in a row) and it paid off.”
