The podium for the Beijing 2022 figure skating team event has now been determined.

The USA, Japan and ROC are the event’s medalists after the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed an appeal filed by Canada on Friday (August 2).

Canadian skaters participating in the event, Skate Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee, had appealed a decision by the International Skating Union (ISU) to classify the final standings as USA, Japan and ROC following the disqualification of ROC skater Kamila Valieva.

However a CAS statement said: “After the hearing, which took place on July 22, 2024, the CAS arbitration tribunal responsible for the matter deliberated and concluded that the results of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in the Olympic figure skating team competition were rightly canceled without any disqualification Possibility in the ISU rules to redistribute points in favor of Team Canada after Kamila Valieva was retroactively disqualified.

This means the USA wins gold with 65 points, Japan wins silver with 63 points and ROC wins bronze with 54 points.

The CAS had previously rejected a separate appeal by the ROC against the annulment of Valieva’s results, which dropped the ROC team from gold medal to bronze medal.
