The Vancouver-based telco said in a statement that the acquisitions were the result of significant investments in customer service technology and customer self-service options.

Spokeswoman Brandi Merker says the company offered the package to a large group of employees to be fair and equitable.

She says the company has the right to limit the number of buyout packages it takes on.

According to Telus’ annual report, the company had 108,500 active employees in 2022.

The annual report states that shifting customer preferences, driven in part by the pandemic, have resulted in a significant acceleration in Telus’ digital transformation and customer self-service options.
