TASS: Russian nuclear forces to conduct exercises at the start of the year

by Edie Jenkins

The Strategic Nuclear Forces of Russia (SNF) will conduct the Thunder Command staff exercises in early 2022, said TASS citing a source at the Ministry of Defense. Details are not provided.

“Thunder exercises with the participation of the Russian nuclear triad are scheduled for early 2022”, quotes his interlocutor.

On December 21, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the Vostok and Thunder exercises for 2022. He said this in the context of international discussions on Russia’s alleged military escalation against Ukraine. As a reminder, in January, Russia and the United States will have talks on security, the Russia-NATO Council and discussions under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). One of the main topics could be Russia’s proposals on security guarantees. Moscow demands the rejection of NATO’s eastward expansion.
