On the way to the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, Expectations were high for Canadian swimming superstar Summer McIntosh from Toronto, Ontario. Well, on Monday she delivered a great performance, literally leaving the field behind in her specialty discipline.
McIntosh got off to a great start and for the next three minutes no one made a real push. McIntosh delivered and was great. She clocked a time of 4:27.71, beating her nearest competitor, Katie Grimes of the USA, by 5.69 seconds. Grimes won the silver medal with a time of 4:33.40 and American Emma Weyant won the bronze medal with a time of 4:34.93. MacIntosh won the medal by 7.96 seconds. Freya Colbert of Great Britain took fourth place with a time of 4:35.67.
This was McIntosh’s second medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics. She previously won silver in the women’s 400-meter freestyle on Saturday. McIntosh still has the women’s 200-meter butterfly in contention, with the final taking place on Thursday (12:30 p.m. MT). She’s also hoping for gold or a medal in the women’s 200-meter individual medley (Aug. 3, 1:01 p.m. MT). The way McIntosh swam the first 200 meters in the 400-meter individual medley, she should be a clear favorite. Canada now has five medals (two gold, one silver and two bronze).
