Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta, recorded his fourth shutout in the National Hockey League on Thursday. He achieved this feat in the Oilers’ 5-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Skinner totaled 25 saves (seven saves in the first period, 12 saves in the second period and six saves in the third period). William Eklund led the Sharks with six shots on goal.

Offensively, four Oilers Canadians played a multi-point game. Ryan McLeod of Mississauga (Ontario), Zach Hyman of Toronto (Ontario) and Evan Bouchard of Oakville (Ontario) each had a goal and an assist for two points, while Darnell Nurse of Hamilton (Ontario) had two assists. The Oilers’ other scorers were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and Leon Draisaitl.

In the 2023-24 season, Skinner has a record of 13 wins, nine regular season losses and one overtime loss. He has a goals average of 2.91 and a save percentage of .891. This was Skinner’s second shutout of the season. On November 24th, he defeated the Washington Capitals 5-0.

This was the second time in his career that Skinner shut out the Sharks. He had previously defeated them on February 14, 2022 in the Oilers’ 3-0 win. Skinner also shut out the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 on March 30, 2023.

With the win, the Oilers improved to a record of 16 wins, 15 regulation losses and one overtime loss to 33 points. They are five points behind the Arizona Coyotes and Nashville Predators for a playoff spot.
