Stephen Ames wins 2024 Chubb Classic

Stephen Ames of Vancouver, British Columbia, won the 2024 Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida on Saturday. Due to bad weather, the Champions Tour event only consisted of 36 holes instead of 48.

Ames posted a two-round score of -13. Rocco Mediate of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, finished in second place with a score of -10, three strokes behind.

In Friday’s first round, Ames had five birdies and zero bogeys. He made birdies on the sixth, eighth, 13th, 15th and 18th holes. On Saturday, Ames had nine birdies and one bogey in the second round. He made birdie on the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 17th and a bogey on the 15th end.

Ames has now won seven PGA Tour Champions events. These were the 2017 Mitsubishi Electric Classic in Duluth, Georgia, the 2021 Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, the 2023 Hassan II Golf Trophy in Rabat, Morocco, the 2023 Mitsubishi Electric Classic, the 2023 Principal Charity Classic and the 2023 Boeing Classic in Snoqualmie, Washington. When Ames won the 2021 Principal Charity Classic, he beat fellow Canadian Mike Weir by one stroke after posting a score of -15 through four rounds.

After two events, Ames sits in second place in the total money standings with $328,000. Steven Alker of Hamilton, New Zealand is at the top with $367,990.
