Puy De Dome, July 9 (AP) Canada’s Michael Woods put in an impressive solo effort on Sunday to claim the biggest win of his career at the top of a legendary Tour de France climb.
Woods, who rides for the Israel-Premier Tech team, has no ambitions in the general classification and was part of an early breakaway that formed the main contenders early in stage nine.

Woods managed to catch American Matteo Jorgenson with just 500 meters to go after his 24-year-old rival bailed off the lead group with less than 50 kilometers to go.
Then Woods let Jorgenson relax and reached the summit of the Puy de Dome, a famous volcanic crater in the Massif Central region of southern France that last hosted a stage 35 years ago.
