TORONTO – Losses in technology and base metals stocks added to an overall decline as Canada’s main stock index fell more than 150 points in late morning trading while U.S. stock markets rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 160.52 points to 20,461.82.
In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 28.78 points to 34,647.02. The S&P 500 Index rose 5.81 points to 4,456.13, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 28.75 points to 13,737.09.
The Canadian dollar traded at 74.09 US cents, compared with 73.93 US cents on Friday.
The November crude oil contract rose $1.05 to $91.07 per barrel and the October natural gas contract rose seven cents to $2.71 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract rose $2.40 to $1,948.60 an ounce and the December copper contract lost three cents to $3.77 a pound.
