The smoke from Canada’s raging wildfires is back.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on Monday declared a “Code Orange” Air quality day of action, while the National Weather Service issued an air quality warning that lasted until midnight Monday night.
“An air quality alert, code ORANGE, means air pollution levels in the area may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.” The National Weather Service warning explained. “Sensitive groups include children, people with asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly.
“The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous outdoor activities or exercise.”
According to airnow.gov, the AQI in Erie, the closest tracking station, was 137.
