Sixteen Americans and one Canadian were kidnapped on Saturday (16) in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, as they were leaving an orphanage. Among the victims are seven women, five children and five men. The group is a member of Christian Aid Ministries, which made this statement.

Local officials said the armed group known as “400 mawozo” (inexperienced men) intercepted the bus with the missionaries and their relatives on Saturday morning as they left an orphanage.

For months, the “400 mawozo” have been carrying out kidnappings and robberies in the region between the Haitian capital and the border with the Dominican Republic, told AFP a source who could not confirm whether the kidnappers demanded a ransom. In April, ten French clerics were kidnapped by this gang in the same region.

One of the missionaries managed to post a message at the time of the rapture. “Please pray for us. We are held hostage, they kidnapped our driver. Pray, pray, pray, we don’t know where they will lead us.

FBI and State Department officials are working tirelessly to locate abduction victims. (With information from AFP)
