Canada coach Bev Priestman announced her final squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday and opened up about wins and losses on the injury side ahead of the 32-team tournament that begins in Australia and New Zealand on July 20.

Canada’s final squad for the Women’s World Cup has been finalized and it looks like some form of working agreement could also be reached ahead of the tournament.

“I think we’re pretty damn close and I think we’ll be there by the time this tournament starts,” captain Christine Sinclair, one of the team’s player representatives, told a virtual availability on Monday from Australia. “I think we’re pretty good where we are right now.”

Sinclair declined to give details, saying she didn’t want to “negotiate a media call.” She said the team wanted to settle the issue of tournament compensation before leaving for Australia so they could focus on football at the World Cup. Longer-term details would have to be clarified later.

Canada’s coach Bev Priestman was also optimistic.

“The group is business oriented, focused and I know they are in the final stages of getting things straight,” she said. “I know both parties did their best – both Canada Soccer and the [player] Leadership Group – to handle this side of things.
