Simeone insists with Cunha in eleven; Lemar, Carrasco and Gimnez, on the sidelines

by Ainsley Ingram

Diego Simeone, the coach of Atlético de Madrid, insisted this Wednesday with Matheus Cunha on the attack of the probable starting eleven next Saturday against Mallorca, in the company of Antoine Griezmann, in a session still without Thomas Lemar or Yannick Carrasco, with alternative work for the second time in a row. day, nor José María Giménez, with a contracture from the last game against Cadiz.

While he recovers these three footballers – this Wednesday, he already had Renan Lodi, once he had overcome the low back pain that had separated him from the fall at the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium -, the Uruguayan central defender being seriously questioned for Saturday’s duel, the coach has already set out his idea for the composition of the same Tuesday afternoon and continued it this morning, also with the same eleven men from the start as the day before.

In attack, he followed with Matheus Cunha, who is already seeing more and more clearly his first time in Diego Simeone’s starting XI since his arrival seventeen games ago from Hertha Berlin, and with Antoine Griezmann. The French striker, indisputable for the Argentine coach, does not turn. Yes, at least according to the tests carried out so far, Luis Suárez is aiming for the following Tuesday’s game against Porto in the Champions League. And Joao Félix, after three absent matches, is still on the bench against Mallorca.

On the other hand, Ángel Correa will regain a place in the lineup, on the right wing, with Rodrigo de Paul on the left – neither Lemar nor Carrasco have trained this Wednesday either – and with Koke Resurrección in the center, well accompanied by Héctor Herrera, with the one he tried early, or Geoffrey Kondogbia, with whom he repeated later, with two more training sessions to come – Thursday and Friday – to build his starting squad. The availability of Lemar or Carrasco could change the configuration of this line for the game against Mallorca.

In defense, Marcos Llorente will keep the right-back, to the detriment of Sime Vrsaljko, after the loss of Kieran Trippier due to his sprained left collarbone (the England international repeated the work with the group for the second day but without contact exercises) and Mario Hermoso is the number one option for the left, with the alternative also from Renan Lodi. In the center, Stefan Savic and Felipe Monteiro are chosen for the eleven.

This is influenced by the absence of José María Giménez, who suffered a muscle contracture in Cadiz, who did not train on Tuesday or Wednesday and whose presence against Mallorca is in doubt.
