NOTICE.- Search for international flights to Mexico has increased by up to 26% compared to 2021, according to Sojern, a digital marketing platform created for travel specialists. These figures represent encouraging prospects for the tourism sector. Among the most searched destinations is Cancun with 40% of total searches, followed by Mexico City with 17% and Puerto Vallarta with 12%. Although tourism in Mexico is preferred in spring and summer, a decline is expected for Mexicans whose destination is the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to data from Sojern, seen by NotiPress, 58% of people interested in finding flights to Mexico are Americans. This figure is supported by the head of the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), Miguel Torruco, since the country ranked first in the participation of trips made by Americans, receiving 58.6% of the total. For its part, national tourism is the second most important in the search for flights, representing 15% and in hotels with 8%. Canadians, in third place, account for 10% of searches for flights and 3% for hotels.

The month with the greatest interest from tourists is April, obtaining 46% of national searches and 26% of international searches. Both types of tourists prefer to stay in hotels for a period of four days, foreigners with 55% and Mexicans with 34%. Figures that coincide with flight searches when combined with this length of stay in 54% of international trips and 34% of domestic trips.

Mexicans’ travel plans will change during the winter, as there is a 7% increase in searches for flights to Qatar, this on the occasion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Latin America, there was a 1,500% increase in searches for trips to the Arab country, which is explained by the fact that they are traditionally football-loving countries. Brazilians are the most interested in traveling with 86%, followed by 7% of Argentines. This trend will likely continue to increase as match schedules expand and the date gets closer.

To obtain the pre-pandemic figures, it is necessary to encourage domestic tourism, whether for short weekends in magical towns or nearby towns. However, the tourism sector will see its greatest boost in April-July, only at Easter, 10.2 million domestic tourists were expected, according to SECTUR. Additionally, the marketing platform recommended companies to have offers in English and Spanish, considering that most tourists are English-speaking and have entertainment in accommodations for about a week.
