Morrison began serving as boss in September 2018 following the announcement of former boss Terry Armstrong’s resignation, before being officially appointed to the position in April 2019.
Deputy Police Chief Brad Duce has agreed to serve as acting police chief until an interim police chief is appointed to oversee the investigation.
“Duce has had a long and distinguished career at NAPS,” the board said.
NAPS is the largest First Nations police service in Canada, serving 35 First Nations communities in northern Ontario. Indigenous police have divisions from the Manitoba border to the Quebec border and north to the James Bay Coast, an area equivalent to two-thirds of the province of Ontario.
“To protect the integrity of the investigation, no further comment will be made at this time,” the board said.
