A woman from Saskatchewan has been gaining attention since stepping into what is literally a sticky situation.
MJ Deans-Beynham has pledged to wear her first “mustache” for the month of November as part of the Movember fundraiser – and it will increase every time she receives a donation.
Her husband, Matthew, has previously raised funds through the annual charity event – which raises money for men’s health issues by encouraging men to grow mustaches and collect donations in November.
Deans-Beynham has decided to join us this year in honoring his father, Kim Deans, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer two years ago after going to the emergency room.
“There weren’t a lot of signs. We didn’t notice a bunch of changes or anything until one day he couldn’t walk. Beynham.
Doctors found that the cancer had metastasized and created a tumor on his spine.
Now she wears a mustache that could rival her father’s to raise awareness of cancer, which will affect one in nine Canadians in their lifetime, according to Health Canada.
She said her father told her he felt “pretty proud” of her new facial feature and fundraising efforts.
Every time someone donates to her through their profile on the Movember website, Deans-Beynham gives her “stache” a makeover.
The first “facial hair” she grew was with an eyebrow pencil. It then evolved into curly mustaches drawn with a Sharpie marker, and she now sports a thick, bushy store-bought mustache.
“I sometimes forget I’m wearing them. I’m driving to work this morning and everyone was looking at me so weird,” she said.
“[I thought], ‘Why is everyone looking at me so weird?’ Ah, OK ! I wear a giant mustache. “
While Deans-Beynham wears his “stache”, her husband shaved his beard, joining his colleagues in growing their own mustaches and raising funds for Movember.
“I have decided that I am going to raise more than my husband,” said Deans-Beynham.
Her husband initially set his goal at $ 1,000, so Deans-Beynham set his at $ 1,100. Her husband has since raised his goal to $ 1,101.
“Everyone laughs at me and roll their eyes and think I’m weird, but so far I’ve raised more money than him so I think it works,” she said. declared.
Deans-Beynham had so much fun styling her mustaches that she says she plans to continue her fundraiser every Movember – and she’s also inspired her 10-year-old daughter to start wearing hers.
